ETIRA have created a series of videos to support our Reuse, Reduce, Recycle message, the second of the series focuses on Reduce. 

Our campaign is focusing on two key messages, including:

• Reducing the amount of paper used, and 
• Reducing energy consumption.

Are you frustrated with your office printer?

In most businesses’ employees hate the printer…

• The printer says it is Available, so why is your computer saying the printer isn’t available?
• Do not let the printer know you’re in a hurry…. Paper jam!
• Printer Unavailable…replace yellow toner. When you do not even want a colour print!

Don’t worry, we have some tips to help you “reduce” the impact of your printer on the environment.

• Turn it off – when the office is empty and switch it back on in the morning – it really will survive and every little bit of energy you save helps the planet
• Consider – Do you really need to print?
  • Digital Proofing
  • Share Electronically
  • Sign Digitally
• If you do need to print – print on both sides

Here are a few additional things you can do.

Formatting Tips

• Reduce margins down to 1.9cm
• Use single line spacing
• Reduce font size to reduce pages
• Use efficient fonts like Times New Roman or Arial that use less space

Best Practices

• Print only the pages you need using the ‘Print Selection’ function
• Proofread your document carefully before printing
• Use the ‘Print Preview’ mode to make sure what you are printing is exactly what you want

Printing Tips

• Use scrap paper for drafts
• Print 2 or 4 pages per sheet (2-up/4-up) where possible
• Print on both sides of the paper where possible and consider changing your default print settings to double-sided

Last but not least

Always THINK TWICE before pushing the print button and if you do, use a reused cartridge to save the environment, reduce your footprint, save money and defeat the gremlin in your printer.
